Summary

This position is responsible for operating a wood receiving yard for the purpose of collection and processing biomass fuel to be utilized at a wood fired power plant.

This position will be located at the CMS Enterprises Mid-Michigan Recycling receiving yard located in Livonia, Michigan. Shift is 7:
00 AM 5:
00 PM, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate the wood receiving yard store front and provide customer service.
  • Inspect, receive, reject, unload, sort out undesirable material, and stage incoming wood in piles for processing.
  • Track yard activity through writing of tickets, paperwork, and computer entries.
  • Handle cash, credit card, and charge account, payments from customers.
  • Operate heavy equipment including wheel loaders and excavators for the purpose of staging wood into piles.
  • Maintain the appearance of the receiving yard.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area including mobile office, storage areas, and heavy equipment.
  • Perform inspection and maintenance activities on heavy equipment in accordance with established schedules or as needed.
  • Prepare and make regular deposits to the bank.
  • Oversee yard activity including employees or contractors on site.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through job planning and identification and correction of hazards, and adherence to safety and procedures.
  • Occasional travel to work at other company sites required.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

Requirements/ Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience handling cash, credit card, and charge account payments from customers
  • Experience with Operating and Maintaining Heavy Equipment (e.g., Front End Loaders, Bulldozers)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends, as needed seasonally
  • Must be able to gain CMS certification to operate heavy equipment and machinery within two weeks of start date

Physical Demands

Climbing:
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

Stooping:
Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling:
Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on one knee or both knees.

Crouching:
Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Sitting:
Sitting upright in the work area to perform duties.

Crawling:
Positioning the body so that weight is evenly distributed on both hands and knees on a flat surface.

Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking:
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing:
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling:
Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting:
Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Requires substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering:
Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Talking:
Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Medium Work:

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity Requirements Including Depth Perception & Field of Vision Machine Operator (including inspection) - This is a minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
